Reggie C. Tabb
Hello there, I'm Reginald Cornell Tabb. I grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, during the vibrant yet challenging 60s and 70s. My hometown, bustling with military parades and marked by the signs of the times, was a tapestry of community and adversity. Living there, in a modest three-bedroom apartment with my five siblings, taught me the value of imagination and community spirit—values that would deeply influence my journey.
My passion for storytelling was kindled in an 8th grade English class, where we were tasked with writing about monsters. I chose a real-life figure, Gary Gilmore, who intrigued me with his complex morality. This project was more than an assignment; it was the spark that ignited my desire to explore the narratives that shape our lives. Since then, I've been driven to understand the deeper stories behind visible actions, particularly those involving injustice and abuse.
After a brief college stint and various jobs that shaped my worldview, I found myself profoundly moved by the plight of children affected by abuse. This led to a deep commitment to child abuse prevention, a commitment that was solidified through my work in corrections. There, I had the unique opportunity to interview incarcerated individuals, gaining insights into the cyclical nature of abuse and the transformative power of understanding and intervention.
Here are a few milestones from my journey that have shaped who I am and what I stand for:
Rooted in Community: From building clubhouses to engaging with neighborhood kids, I learned the power of community early on.
A Storyteller from the Start: Since junior high, I've been recognized for my ability to weave complex tales that challenge and engage.
Engaged in Social Change: My activism took root in Atlanta, where I was moved to action by the tragic impact of child abuse on my community.
Insights from Behind Bars: Working in corrections provided me profound insights into the psychological repercussions of abuse.
Advocacy Through Storytelling: I've dedicated my life to advocating for those without a voice, using every platform available to me to make a difference.
